Diplomat selects TemperPack’s recyclable packaging for temperature-sensitive medication

Diplomat Pharmacy has selected TemperPack’s ClimaCell coolers for shipping its temperature-sensitive medication. ClimaCell coolers will allow Diplomat to avoid more than five tons of plastic to enter into landfills each week.

Diplomat has replaced its expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam coolers with ClimaCell coolers, which are recyclable at curbside and insulated with renewable materials that can be recycled wherever plastic bags are accepted.

According to the company, ClimaCell coolers need 94% less energy to manufacture, enabling to reduce carbon emissions.

Diplomat Pharmacy chairman and CEO Brian Griffin said: “Switching to ClimaCell not only reduces Diplomat’s carbon footprint; it’s also a reflection of our steadfast commitment to patients.

“It’s difficult to dispose of EPS foam responsibly, and our patients have already expressed their excitement about reducing the amount of plastic heading to landfills.”

ClimaCell coolers are in line with International Safe Transit Association standards, making it suitable to carry medication at a safe temperature even in extreme weather conditions.

In September this year, TemperPack provided its curbside recyclable ClimaCell liners to the meal-kit company HelloFresh.

Consumers can dispose ClimaCell liners in curbside recycling bins, along with the corrugated box package, and it delivers similar performance as EPS foam (Styrofoam).

The ClimaCell liners will allow HelloFresh to avoid 15,000 tons of packaging waste to enter into landfills each year.

Diplomat provides specialty pharmacy and infusion services to its customers in the US. It works with payers, providers, hospitals, manufacturers and others to serve people with complex and chronic health conditions.

Established in 2015, TemperPack is engaged in providing solutions to the thermal packaging problems via sustainable design. It has two facilities in Virginia and Nevada.
